The Sabian 12" VFX Distortion Hats are a rare set of hi-hat cymbals from the late 1990s/early 2000s (produced 1999-2001), known for their unique, "trashy" and "clangy" sound profile. They were part of the Sabian Signature Series and were a hybrid design developed with artist Tony Verderosa, intended for techno, electronic, and loop-based music. 

Description

• Unique Design: The top cymbal has a unique, slightly flattened "China plate" shape that rises to a bell in the middle, while the bottom cymbal is heavy with a normal bell. The hammering on the top cymbal is clustered toward the bell and becomes sparse toward the edge.
• Sound Profile: They are known for having a very distinct, "distorted" sound, often described as a "Chi-Hat" or "clang" sound rather than a traditional "chick" when played with the foot pedal. They produce raw sound, overtones, and an aggressive, cutting character, making them a unique effect cymbal.
• Material: Like most professional Sabian cymbals, they are made from high-quality B20 bronze alloy.
