Description
This 1977 Marshall JMP represents the pinnacle of classic late-70s British rock tone. These legendary tube amplifiers are celebrated for their raw, aggressive punch, rich mid-range crunch, and gobs of sustain that would later define 80s hard rock and heavy metal.
The Master Volume Era 2204
In 1977, the most highly sought-after JMP models were the Model 2203 (100-watt) and the Model 2204 (50-watt). These amplifiers are historically significant because they were the first Marshalls to feature a Master Volume control.
- Preamp & Master Volume: Instead of having to crank the amplifier to maximum volume to get power-tube distortion, players could now dial in preamp saturation using the Preamp Volume and adjust the overall output with the Master Volume.
- Inputs: They featured two inputs (High and Low sensitivity), giving players the choice between high-gain crunch or a cleaner, more traditional vintage signal path.
- Control Layout: Typically featured controls for Presence, Bass, Middle, Treble, Master Volume, and Preamp Volume
