Description
You're looking at a Ca 1953 Gibson J-50. At some point in its life, it seems to have taken a fall which led to some repairs. There is a very old headstock repair that is nearly invisible to the naked eye, as well as some internal bracing which was repaired. The long gauge on the back does not seem to be a crack. Although it is deep, it does not seem to go through the back. Of course, the tuning machines have been replaced, and there was a new logo screen printed over the old one. We believe that the smaller pickguard was replaced at the time of the repair with the larger pickguard that was available at the time. There are a couple of cracks that have begun under the edges of the pickguard.
The action is a bit high, but the top is relatively flat. This beauty is a great candidate for a neck reset. It does sound great, and is very nicely resonant.
Included is the 50's brown tolex case which is in very nice condition for its age.
