Universal Audio UAFX Orion Tape Delay
The Universal Audio UAFX Orion is a compact digital delay pedal designed to recreate the sound and behavior of a vintage 1970s Maestro Echoplex EP-III tape echo. It delivers rich, warm, and slightly imperfect repeats that capture the natural modulation and saturation of real tape delay systems.
It offers three distinct tape “wear” styles—Mint, Worn, and Old—which let you go from clean, modern repeats to darker, more degraded, vintage-style echoes. The pedal also includes a modeled EP-III preamp that can be used to add subtle warmth, grit, or boost to your overall tone, even when the delay is bypassed.
Additional controls like Wonk (for wow/flutter and modulation), feedback, and delay time give it a wide range of sounds from tight slapback echoes to long, swirling ambient trails.
In practice, it’s known for delivering one of the most realistic “tape echo” experiences in a compact pedal format, with strong vintage character and modern reliability.
