The Zildjian 14" ZHT Mastersound Hi-Hat Pair is an affordable, sheet bronze cymbal set known for its pronounced "chick" and balanced, cutting tone. • Mastersound edge: The bottom cymbal has a scalloped or "rippled" outer edge with hammered grooves. This design allows air to escape quickly when the cymbals are closed, which produces a fast, crisp, and clean "chick" sound.
• B12 alloy: These hi-hats are made from Zildjian's B12 alloy, a blend of 88% copper and 12% tin. This high-tin sheet bronze is designed to produce a more musical and less clangy sound than typical budget cymbals.
• Medium top/heavy bottom: The pairing of a medium-weight top cymbal with a heavier bottom cymbal offers a powerful combination. This weight difference is ideal for achieving a strong, defined chick and a versatile range of tones, from a tight stick sound to a washy open-hat sizzle.
• Lathing and hammering: Like other ZHT cymbals, the Mastersound hi-hats are both lathed and precision-hammered. This gives them a balanced tonal presence, adding a character previously reserved for more expensive cast cymbals.
