The Zildjian 14" ZHT Mastersound Hi-Hat Pair is an affordable and versatile set of sheet-bronze cymbals designed for increased musicality and a distinct, cutting "chick" sound. They were produced from approximately 2006 onward as part of the Zildjian High Tin (ZHT) series. 

Key features

• Mastersound edge: The bottom hi-hat features a distinctive, scalloped outer edge with hammered grooves. This design allows air to escape quickly and prevents "airlock" between the cymbals, resulting in a cleaner, faster, and more articulate "chick" sound.
• B12 sheet bronze: Unlike Zildjian's cheaper B8 sheet cymbals, the ZHT series uses a B12 alloy (88% copper, 12% tin). This higher tin content adds musicality and projection, helping the cymbals to produce a more complex tone.
• Top/bottom weight: The pair consists of a medium-weight top cymbal and a heavier, grooved bottom cymbal, which contributes to its full-bodied and defined sound.
• Lathing and hammering: The cymbals are lathed on both the top and bottom surfaces and feature a specialized hammering process, which are manufacturing techniques often found in Zildjian's more expensive, professional-grade lines.

• "Chick" sound: The signature "Mastersound" feature produces a crisp, cutting, and solid foot-chick.
• Open sound: When played open or semi-open, they offer a sizzling, bright, and powerful wash that can easily project and cut through a mix.
• Versatility: The ZHT Mastersounds are described as versatile enough for many musical styles, including louder rock and alternative genres, while also being sensitive enough to provide articulation for more intricate stick work.
