Used Ampeg VT-22 100W 2x12 Vintage Tube Guitar Combo

Description

The Ampeg VT-22 is a formidable vintage American tube combo known for enormous clean headroom, muscular low end, and the ability to become downright ferocious when pushed. Essentially bringing the power and attitude associated with Ampeg's V-Series amplifiers into a 2x12 combo format, the VT-22 earned a reputation as an exceptionally loud, rugged amplifier with a voice distinctly different from the more familiar Fender and Marshall designs of its era.

Rated around 100 watts, the VT-22 has tremendous authority for guitar. At moderate settings it can produce big, articulate cleans with excellent low-frequency extension and plenty of headroom for pedals. Turn it up and the amp develops a thick, harmonically rich drive that works exceptionally well for classic rock, blues-rock, garage, punk, doom, stoner rock, and other styles where sheer tube-amp presence is part of the sound.

The VT-22's 2x12 speaker configuration helps give the amplifier its substantial physical response. It can fill a room with a wide, powerful sound while retaining the convenience of a self-contained combo. For players who like pedal platforms, the amp's headroom and full-frequency character provide a strong foundation for fuzz, distortion, overdrive, delay, and modulation.

In the studio, the VT-22 can be a serious tone machine. Its combination of high-powered tube circuitry and a large 2x12 cabinet can produce huge rhythm-guitar tracks, aggressive fuzz tones, and expansive clean sounds. Microphone choice and placement can dramatically reshape the result, making this a versatile amplifier when a recording calls for something outside the usual vintage Fender or British amp vocabulary.

As with any vintage tube amplifier, individual examples may have received maintenance, replacement tubes, speakers, capacitors, transformers, power components, or other repairs during their lifetime. Please refer carefully to the photos for this amp's exact speaker configuration, transformers, tubes, control panel, cabinet, rear-panel components, modifications, replacement parts, and overall originality. No claim of complete originality should be assumed unless specifically documented.
