Used Warm Audio WA-14 Large-Diaphragm Condenser Microphone

Description

The Warm Audio WA-14 is a professional large-diaphragm condenser microphone inspired by the character of classic Austrian studio microphones. Designed around a brass CK12-style capsule and transformer-based circuitry, the WA-14 delivers a detailed, open sound with plenty of presence while retaining the body and character engineers often look for in a studio condenser.

In the studio, the WA-14 is an exceptionally versatile microphone for vocals, acoustic guitar, electric guitar cabinets, piano, strings, percussion, drum overheads, room recording, and voice-over work. Its ability to capture both detail and transient information makes it useful on sources ranging from intimate vocal performances to full drum kits.

One of the WA-14's most useful features is its three selectable polar patterns: cardioid, omnidirectional, and figure-8. Cardioid is ideal for many conventional vocal and instrument sessions, omni can capture a more open room sound, and figure-8 allows for creative recording techniques including mid-side setups and recordings involving sound arriving from the front and rear of the microphone.

The microphone also includes a selectable high-pass filter and attenuation pad, making it easier to adapt the WA-14 to different recording situations. The filter can help reduce unwanted low-frequency rumble or proximity buildup, while the pad allows the microphone to accommodate louder sources such as guitar cabinets, percussion, and drums.

For studios that need a microphone capable of moving from a vocal booth to an acoustic instrument, drum room, or amplifier session, the WA-14 is a highly practical choice. It can serve as a primary vocal microphone while also earning its place as a versatile utility condenser for everyday recording.
