Used Fender 1972 Competition Mustang Vintage Electric Guitar

Description

This 1972 Fender Competition Mustang is a genuine vintage-era example of one of Fender's most distinctive offset electric guitars. Originally introduced as an evolution of the Mustang platform, the Competition models are immediately recognizable for their racing-stripe-inspired body graphics, giving them a visual identity that has become especially associated with late-1960s and early-1970s Fender design.

The Mustang's compact offset body, shorter scale length, and comfortable neck have made it a favorite among generations of players. The shorter scale provides a softer string feel than Fender's full-scale Stratocaster and Telecaster designs, making bends and chord work comfortable while contributing to the Mustang's distinctive attack and response.

Its traditional Mustang-style electronics provide a character that can range from bright, articulate, and cutting to more unusual combinations through the model's individual pickup switching arrangement. Combined with the floating vibrato system, the Mustang offers a personality that is very different from more conventional Fender designs. It is particularly well suited for indie, alternative, garage rock, surf, punk, shoegaze, psychedelic music, and experimental styles.

As an early-1970s Competition Mustang, this guitar also has significant vintage Fender appeal. Instruments from this period can vary considerably today due to decades of maintenance, repairs, modifications, refinishing, replaced electronics, fret work, and hardware changes. For that reason, we are not representing every component as original unless clearly supported by the instrument itself. Please examine the photos carefully for the exact finish, Competition stripe, pickups, electronics, switches, pots, bridge, vibrato, tuners, pickguard, neck markings, serial information, and other components.

Whether purchased as a working vintage instrument, a studio guitar, or an addition to a Fender collection, this 1972 Competition Mustang offers the unmistakable look, feel, and personality of an authentic vintage offset.
