Junior Repair Technician

Purpose:

The Junior Repair Technician supports Music Go Round Elk Grove's buy-sell-trade operation by evaluating, cleaning, and performing basic repairs on used guitars and basses as they come through the store. You'll work alongside our Senior Technician in a fast-paced, music-loving environment where your bench skills directly impact what customers see, play, and buy. This is a great entry point for a self-taught repair-tech or someone with trade school training who wants to turn their passion for gear into a career.


Areas Of Responsibility:

  • Inspect incoming guitars and basses for playability, structural integrity, and cosmetic condition
  • Accurately assess repair needs and communicate findings to store leadership 
  • Perform standard setups on both store-owned and customer-owned instruments: string changes, action and intonation adjustment, truss rod adjustments, basic nut and saddle work
  • Execute other common repairs as needed such as: cleaning and lubricating tuning machines, tightening loose hardware, fret polishing, output jack tightening 
  • Maintain a clean, organized workbench and properly store tools and supplies 


Qualifications

  • Proven experience adjusting, maintaining, and repairing guitar and/or bass
  • Familiarity and experience with product lines such as Fender, Gibson, Taylor, PRS, etc. as well as sub-genres such as 12-string, Floyd Rose, baritone, etc.
  • Prior retail experience preferred in similar product lines, but willing to train the right candidate
  • Highest level of proven customer service skills required
  • Ability to work well as a team member, accept constructive feedback, and follow directions
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills


Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time, up to 8 hours a day
  • Lifting up to 40 lbs. without assistance. May involve heavier lifting with assistance of team member or cart/dolly
  • Bending, rotating, and reaching customary to a retail environment; including receiving, pricing, and stocking/back stocking merchandise
  • Exposure to typical retail environment conditions and noise levels
  • Able to operate a computerized sales terminal


Other

This is an on-site position with a schedule of approximately 30-40 hours. Closing shift availability (until 8pm weekdays or 6pm Saturday) is strongly preferred. Our store is open every day so flexibility to work Saturdays is a plus. This position is typically not scheduled on Sunday.


Starting pay: $21/hour. Accepting resumes on an ongoing basis for a projected late-summer start date.
