Framus 74A 1960s-70s
Here's an old Framus up for sale. The model number given on the sound hole label says "74A," which is followed by a large space before it says in faded print, "05201."
I think that's what is says anyway, my eyes are not what they used to be--even with my glasses.
Anyway, here's the run down:
- This is a smaller sized acoustic, more like a parlor.
- The top wood of this guitar is absolutely covered with finish cracks. These are only cracks in the finish of the guitar, due to age, and are not in the wood. This is only a cosmetic issue.
- The bridge is starting to lift a little, but is still securely in place thanks to the screws.
- The frets are okay, the guitar is completely playable as is, but they do show significant wear from normal use over the past few decades.
- The action towards the lower end of the fret board is fine, but does get a bit high the further up you go. Older guitars tend to have higher action than their modern counterparts, but if it's a major issue, you can always shim the neck a bit. One benefit of an acoustic with a bolt neck.
Aside from all of that, this guitar is actually in pretty good shape for how old it is.
